WOMEN MAKING WAVES

How many female scientists can you name? How many on campus?

This International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Women's History Month, and International Women's Day, we celebrate TU Delft’s female scientists. TU Delft Library & DEWIS (Delft Women in Science) introduce you to 17 campus leaders through their intellectual ideas, attracting attention to how these women impact society and inspire future female scientists. Some of our faculty even take on gender challenges in their own research and teaching.

Student campaign exposing gender bias in design

"Female voices are less likely to be accurately processed by voice recognition software and artificial intelligence assistants, because these programs are trained on datasets in which women are underrepresented (Perez, 2019)."

– Excerpts and fictional product from "One Size Fits Some", a 2020 Master's Thesis on gender bias at the TU Delft by Maartje van Proosdij, advised by Prof. dr. B.F. van Eekelen and Dr. ir. A.G.C. van Boeijen.
